Forgotten Dog Dragged, Dies, Police Say

A dog died after its owner forgot he tied it to the back of a pickup truck, went for a drive and dragged it for a mile, police said.

Police arrested the dog's owner, Brian Moson, 35, of Suffield, Sunday night after a passerby noticed the 5-year-old Australian Shepherd being dragged along River Boulevard, police said.

Moson was about a mile from his home when two cars pulled him over, boxed him in and untied the dog from the trailer hitch, police said.

Neighbors bundled the dog in blankets and rushed it to VCA Boston Road Animal Hospital in Springfield, Mass. but the dog was too badly injured and had to be euthanized, police said.

Moson, who police said failed field sobriety tests, told police he forgot he tied the dog to the back of the truck.

Moson was charged with driving under the influence and cruelty to animals.

Moson has been released after posting bond. He will be arraigned Nov. 18 in Enfield Superior Court.
