Malloy Wants Sunday Liquor Sales

Gov. Dannel Malloy wants to chage Connecticut laws to allow Sunday liquor sales. 

State blue laws currently prohibit liquor stores and supermarkets from selling alcoholic beverages on Sundays. "What we're trying to do is recgonize how people live their lives today. and make sure we have a stystem that is competitive with surrounding states," Malloy said.

The Blue Laws go back to the 1650s, according to research the state library found.

The ban against liquor sales on Sunday was also part of the Liquor Control Act of 1933, passed at the end of the Prohibition. 

The state Legislature was debating changing the law in 2011, but the proposal died in committee. 

Malloy’s proposals will also include allowing bars and restaurants to operate until 2 a.m., which is something that is only allows on weekends now, according to CT News Junkie.
