Surprise Inspections Close Hartford Bars Cited With Violations

A surprise inspection by local authorities at some Hartford bars led to some closures this morning.

Hartford and West Harford police, along with the Department of Labor and Liquor Control Division , inspected several nightclubs and bars in the North District to make sure they were in compliance with city and state regulations.

10 businesses were inspected.

Investigators found the Blue Print Bar and Grill, Sunset Cafe, West Indian Social Club Pastry Dynamics were cited and closed for Labor Violations. DOL officials tell NBC Connecticut they were paying employees cash under the table and not offering them worker's comp.

The West Indian Social Club will pay a $1,000 fine per day to remain open after the violations.

United Banquet Hall and Kabbalah House were cited for liquor violations.

No violations were found at Vibz Uptown, La La's Bar, and Angry Bull Saloon.

Investigators also attempted to inspect Epiphany Restaurant and Lounge and Sportsman Athletic Club, but neither business was open at the time.
