Suspect Brain-Eating Case Due in Court

Police said Tyree Smith ate one of the victim's eyeballs and part of his brain.

An Ansonia native charged with killing another man with ax and eating body parts is due  in court on Monday.

Tyree Smith, 35, pleaded not guilty in a Bridgeport courtroom last month when a hearing was held on whether prosecutors have enough evidence to continue pursuing a murder charge.

Smith, a Florida resident who grew up in Ansonia, is charged with the murder of Angel Gonzalez in Bridgeport on Dec. 15.

Police said Smith ate one of Gonzalez's eyeballs and part of his brain.

Smith was arrested in his hometown of Lynn Haven, Florida, in January.

Gonzalez's relatives have said Smith deserves to be condemned to spend the rest of his life in prison.
