‘I Want to Kill Police': Suspect Allegedly Threatens Police

A New Haven man arrested in Hamden early Friday morning is accused of making threats against police.

Police said Alex Lawrence, 24, of New Haven, went into the Go on Gas on Arch Street and asked for a free cigar. When the clerk refused and asked him to leave the store, Lawrence allegedly said, “Call the police. I want to kill them and snipe them when they arrive,” police said.

The clerk contacted police around 2 a.m. and said he feared for his life.

Police found Lawrence near the store and said he had a small amount of marijuana and a Hydromorphone pill, which is an opioid.

Lawrence was brought to the police station and charged with second-degree threatening, breach of peace, possession of narcotics and possession of marijuana and detained on a $5,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on July 22.
