Suspect Stole $4,000 Worth of Jewelry and Electronics from Westport Home: Police

Westport police arrested a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of electronics and jewelry from a home.

Sherman Miles, 58, of New Haven, was charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. Police said the arrest stems from a daytime burglary in October 2015.

In that incident, officers responded to a home on Main Street for reports of a burglary. According to police, a suspect smashed a window to enter the home and stole electronics and jewelry valued around $4,000.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Miles, sold the stolen items to a Stratford pawn shop. Police identified Miles through the pawn shop's surveillance system and by identification he gave during the sale of the items.

Miles was arrested on August 2 and held on a $175,000 warrant. He is expected in court Aug. 12.
