Suspect From Simsbury Killed in New York Police Shooting

Authorities have identified a Connecticut man fatally shot by police after a carjacking and chase in New York's Hudson Valley.

State police say 35-year-old Michael G. Murphy of West Simsbury carjacked a vehicle at knifepoint in the Dutchess County city of Beacon at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers say Beacon police chased Murphy to a point near Exit 11 on Interstate 84 where he got out of the vehicle, ran through woods and crossed the highway.

Police say he was confronted by officers and shot when he threatened them with a large knife.

State police are leading the investigation into the shooting and are asking witnesses to contact them. Prosecutors say a grand jury will review the circumstances, routine procedure in a killing involving police.
