Suspects in Gym Thefts Nabbed

Al Mazza was patrolling the parking lot of Gold's Gym on Enfield Street in Enfield, trying to keep gym patron’s possessions safe as police investigated who was taking items from cars as gyms across the area.

They put patrons on high alert, posting signs warning people not to leave valuables in their cars.

"I've been walking the parking lot every day to make sure it wouldn't happen again to our members," Mazza said.

Sunday, police arrested Willie Jackson Jr., 28, and his wife Karona Rogers, 36, both of Westfield, Massachusetts, and Carmen Pereira, 22, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

They were arrested when an officer spotted their car and police said the three could be behind dozens of burglaries in multiple communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

When police pulled them over, the three confessed to multiple burglaries, police said.

Police recovered about $1,000 in cash and a couple thousand dollars worth of GPS units, cell phones and gift cards.

Police believe the suspects are behind burglaries in Bloomfield, East Windsor, Windsor, Windsor Locks and several communities in the Springfield, Massachusetts area.

The pattern for these crimes has been the same each time. All have happened in gym parking lots.

Enfield police are working with more than a half dozen communities in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Police are reminding people to not leave valuable in plain sight, even when the car is locked.

The three will be arraigned later this morning in Enfield Superior Court.
