Suspicious Device Leads To Car Slamming Into Cruiser Then Into A Wall

A suspicious device caused a portion of West Main Street in Meriden to shut down and ended with an accident involving a police cruiser Thursday evening.

The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad was sent to investigate a suspicious device that was left in front of the Meriden Police Station shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday.

According to Meriden Police, the device, which was found on the front wall of the Police Department, was determined to be a pair of boots and inside was half of a radio containing wires.

While Police were clearing the scene, a car driven by 68-year-old Jadwiga Kobylinska of Meriden slammed into the cruiser of veteran Officer John Papotto and then into the YMCA.

Kobylinska was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, while Officer Papotto was treated and released from the hospital. Both are expected to be ok.

The accident is currently under investigation.
