Tapas in West Hartford to Close After 32 Years

Tapas restaurant in West Hartford has closed its doors after more than three decades of service.

Executive Chef Chip Cutting announced the closure on Facebook Monday. The restaurant on New Britain Avenue did not just serve tapas - it was popular for its Mediterranean-style food and cozy atmosphere, and sometimes offered live music.

Cutting said owner Ted Vetter made the decision to close the restaurant because he planned to retire. According to Cutting, Vetter wanted to turn the restaurant over to his son, but the change in ownership would have required updates to the restaurant that the family could not afford.

“With all the new restaurants in town now, we really were struggling to keep our heads [above] water. He finally decided that the place needed new blood, new money, new concept,” Cutting told NBC Connecticut.

Cutting said Vetter’s son still runs the Bloomfield location and The Corner Pug restaurant in West Hartford.

“I put nearly 16 years of my life and love into it. I will miss the people, the food, the staff old and new and the many memories,” Cutting said.
