Teacher Accused of Assaulting Student Arraigned

A  former West Hartford music teacher accused of sexually assaulting a former student is free on bond.

West Hartford police arrested Joseph Anthony Marino, 42, of Wethersfield on Aug. 12, after someone found the student's diary in garbage -- a diary police said detailed a several-month-long sexual relationship between the two.

Marino was arraigned on Thursday and is free on bond, according to court records. He was ordered to stay away from the victim, the Hartford Courant reports.

He resigned from his job as a music teacher at Conard High School earlier this month.

WestHartfordNews.com reports that Marino had been an employee in West Hartford schools since 1998.

The Hartford Courant reports that Marino was the student's babysitter and she graduated from the high school in May.

The Courant reports that he is due back in court on Oct. 4.
