Teacher Arrested on Sex-Related Charges

After his arrest on sex-related charges, a science teacher at Valley Regional High School in Deep River is on paid administrative leave.

Jeffrey Donald Sack, 40, was arrested Friday and charged with risk of injury to a minor, employing a minor in an obscene performance, and enticing a minor by computer.  The arrest warrant in the case has been temporarily sealed, so no details of his alleged actions are available.  But school officials say the alleged criminal conduct did not involve anyone at Valley Regional High School.

“Based on the information that we received from law enforcement officials, there is absolutely no reason to believe at this time that any inappropriate or criminal conduct to any student, faculty, or staff in our district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ruth Levy.

Regardless, Levy says Sack was asked to say home while the school conducts its own investigation.

“Anything like this is taken very seriously.  We are extremely concerned about the safety and well being about any of our students, and any allegations like this is something that it’s serious and we take it as such,” said Dr. Levy.

The school district sent out a letter to parents Friday, alerting them of the charges.  Those who have children in the district say any allegations are alarming.

“We did get a letter from the Board of Ed describing a situation with a teacher, but the public hasn’t really been told what happened, so I’m concerned what the details are of the incident,” said Stacey Wells of Deep River.

Sack was arraigned Friday and released on $75,000 bond.  He’ll be back in Middletown Superior Court on September 11.
