Teen Accused in Brutal Beating

Teen is suffering from a brain injury.

A Stamford teen has been arrested, accused of beating a 17-year-old last week outside Stamford High School to the point where he had to be put in a medically induced coma.

Police said the teens were in a neighborhood dispute and agreed to fight around noon on Friday in a school parking lot.

A teacher who saw the fight went to break it up, saw one teen smash the other's head on the pavement and run away and found the 17-year-old unconscious, with blood coming from his nose and mouth.

He was placed in a coma because his brain was beginning to swell. He has since regained consciousness, but is hospitalized with a brain injury and has not been able to talk to police.

The suspect turned himself in to police on Wednesday morning, police said. He was charged with second-degree assault, loitering on school grounds and breach of peace and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond, police said.

His name has not been released because of his age.
