Teen Placed Powder in School Employee's Purse: Police

Tests revealed that the white powder was baking soda, Avon police said.

A 17-year student accused of placing an envelope containing white powder into the purse of an employee of a school for children with learning or behavioral issues has been arrested.

The teen, whose name has not been released, is a student at Farmington Valley Diagnostic Center in Avon, police said. 

Officers were called to the school at 2:18 p.m. on Wednesday to investigate after the powder was found.

Tests revealed that the white powder was baking soda, Avon police said.

The teen was taken into custody and charged with breach of peace in the third  degree and appeared before a judge on Thursday.
