Teenage Girl Killed in Hit-And-Run in Middletown

A 15 year old girl was struck and killed last night in Middletown.

A Clinton mother wants answers after her 15-year-old daughter was killed by a hit-and-run driver Friday evening.

Cailyn Bassett was walking on Saybrook Road in Middletown when she was struck by a motor vehicle at around 5:45 p.m., police said. The driver fled the scene of the accident.

"I got a knock on the door at midnight to tell me there was an accident...a fatal accident with my daughter," Stephanie Phillips said.

Stephanie is having a difficult time accepting the fact  that her daughter, the eldest of her four children, will never come home.

"She was a beautiful girl. I loved her so much. She had a great personality," said Phillips.

Cailyn attended The Morgan School in Clinton. Her mother said she was going to visit friends she went to school with Friday night.

Police said no one has been arrested and they are looking for the driver.

Stephanie wants the person responsible for taking her daughter's life to be brought to justice and hopes anyone who has information regarding the accident will come forward.

"I will never forgive this person. I want this person to hurt as much as I do right now, " Stephanie Phillips said.

Counseling services will be available for students who attended school with Cailyn next week.

Witnesses are urged to contact the Middletown Police Department at 860-347-6941.
