Thieving Baggage Handlers Grounded

Eleven busted for stealing items from fliers' luggage

It started with a stolen iPod from luggage on a Delta flight at Bradley International Airport.

The Connecticut State Police investigation wound up nabbing 11 suspects and uncovered stolen laptops, iPods, GPS units, jewelry and flat-screen TVs.

Eight of the 11 arrested work for Delta Global Services, which handles baggage for the airline.  Two work for Delta and another arrested was a family member of an employee, who state police say became involved by tampering with evidence.

In the process, State Police discovered a cargo storage unit had been burglarized.

They describe the loot as "a substantial amount of stolen property" during searches at a number of different locations.

In a statement, a Delta spokesperson said the company received a report of stolen items and contacted the state police.  Susan Elliott said, "Both the employees and contract workers that are suspeected of being involved have been terminated."
