Third Westbound Lane of I-84 West in Waterbury Expected to Open Tonight

The third westbound lane on Interstate 84 in Waterbury, between Washington Street and Austin Road, are expected open to drivers for regular use beginning tonight, but whether it opens is dependent on the weather.

If the lanes do not open tonight, they will open by Monday morning.

The new third eastbound lane of the highway opened in August and the governor said the state Department of Transportation is on track to complete the I-84 Waterbury Widening Project a year ahead of schedule.

After the westbound lane open, milling, shimming and paving of the highway will continue and final pavement of all lanes is expected to be completed in the fall.

The westbound 25 on-ramp/Plank Road East/Harpers Ferry Road intersection is expected to open in November, according to the governor, and local roadwork will continue through the spring, including improvements and reconstruction of Reidville Drive, East Main Street, Scott Road, and Plank Road East.
