One Killed, Three Injured at New Haven Construction Site

One person is dead, three others were injured when a beam fell about 30-feet at a Yale construction site on Monday morning and a second beam swung into a cherry picker, which injured two other workers.

A Yale-New Haven Hospital spokesman said one man died of his injuried, two other men being treated there are in critical condition and one is in serious condition.

A fourth person is being treated at the Hospital of Saint Raphael for injuries considered not life-threatening. Officials were not sure how that person was hurt.

Crews were called to Science Park, 275 Winchester Ave. in New Haven, on Monday morning. Fire officials called the injuries "crush injuries." It took about 10 minutes to free the man, officials said.

When crews arrived, a beam was on top of one worker.

Yale owns the building and the accident is under investigation.

According to the City of New Haven Web site, the building is the former Winchester gun factory and it is being turned into a mixed use complex.
