Top Rockies Prospect Brendan Rodgers Joining Yard Goats

The top prospect in the Colorado Rockies organization is coming to play for the Hartford Yard Goats, the team's Double-A Eastern League affiliate.  Shortstop Brendan Rodgers has been promoted from Class-A Lancaster to the Goats.

He will become the highest ever draft-pick to play for the Yard Goats.  Rodgers was the first pick by the Rockies in the 2015 draft, and the 3rd overall pick that draft.

Rodgers becomes the youngest player on the Yard Goats roster at age 20.  He just played in the California League All-Star game on Tuesday.

Rodgers has monster stats in California.  He's leading the California League with a .400 batting average, .419 on base percentage, .700 slugging percentage, and 147 total bases.

He is listed by Baseball America as the number 16 overall prospect and the best power hitter in the Rockies organization.  MLB.com ranks him as the number 10 overall prospect in the minors.

He is joining the team in uniform tonight in Richmond, Va.  He'll return with the team to Hartford on Monday for his first homestand as a Goat against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the New York Mets Double-A affiliate.

Lancaster infield Brian Mundell was also promoted to the Yard Goats from the JetHawks.
