Torrington Escaped Prisoner Found

Anyone who can help find Ryan Kaminski is asked to call Torrington police.

Torrington police have found Ryan Kaminski, a 29-year-old Winsted man who escaped from police custody on Wednesday night, Sept. 12. He was found around 4:30 p.m. the next day in Winsted.

Police detained Kaminski around 7:30 p.m. on Greenwoods Road in the parking lot of the Sue Grossman Still River Greenway in Torrington.  Police said they stopped him on motor vehicle charges, searched his white Nissan Maxima and found items stolen during car burglaries in Torrington and Winsted, and possibly in other towns.

Kaminiski was charged with motor vehicle violations. Officers handcuffed him, placing his hands behind his back, and placed him in the back seat of a marked police cruiser, police said.

Kaminski was somehow able to get out of his handcuffs, force the door open and run from the cruiser.

He lives at 89 Hillside Ave., on the second floor, and previously lived at 470 Fall Mountain Road in Bristol, police said.

Kaminski is a car mechanic and has work associations in Waterbury and Thomaston. No one was injured and no weapons were involved, according to police.

Torrington police have a warrant charging Kaminski with escape from custody and there is a court-set bond of $100,000.
