State police in Cheshire shut down Interstate 84 westbound after a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Wednesday evening.
The crash happened at 7 p.m., between exits 26 and 27, state police said.
A spokesman for the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said 50 gallons of diesel fuel spewed from the truck.
The highway had to be closed for a few hours while crews cleaned up the leak.
