Case Continued for Man Stuck in Chimney

A man running from police got himself stuck in a chimney on Thursday night, police said.

The man accused of running from New London police and getting stuck in the chimney appeared in court on Monday and his case was continued to April 23.

On April 5, police were trying to serve Dean Lachappelle, 18, with an arrest warrant for third-degree burglary, but he fled from the Southern Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency on Coit Street, police said.

Lachappelle ran onto the roof of a multifamily house at 14 Home St., climbed down the chimney to get away from police and got stuck, police said.

As an officer and a police dog searched, they heard screaming from the chimney and found Lachappelle wedged inside.

Firefighters had to rescue him from the chimney.

He was taken to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

Lachappelle was charged with second-degree burglary and interfering with police. Bond was increased from $75,000 to $100,000.
