Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Tractor Trailer on I-95

A Middletown woman was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Old Lyme Thursday morning, according to state police.

Police said the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on I-95 south between exits 70 and 71. The victim, identified as Ashley Ferguson, 31, had pulled over and gotten out of her car to check on a child in the backseat when she was struck by a passing tractor trailer.

Ferguson was declared dead on scene.

The child and an adult passenger in her car were not injured. The child was taken to the Shoreline Clinic as a precaution.

Ferguson’s passenger and the driver of the tractor trailer, identified as Nicolae Marcu, 47, of New Hampshire, both refused transport.

This accident remains under investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call State Police Troop F at 860-399-2100.
