Two Drivers Hospitalized in Wallingford Head-On Crash

Police are investigating head-on collision in Wallingford that hospitalized both drivers with serious injuries late evening Tuesday.

Driver Saida Safyane, 51, was extricated from her Chevrolet Aveo after the Kia Forte Karen Boughton-Michaud, 52, was driving veered into the oncoming eastbound travel lane and struck Safayane's vehicle, Wallingford police said in a news release. The accident occurred around 11:17 p.m. on Cook Hill Road near the intersection with Deer Run Road, police said.  Boughton-Michaud was heading west at the time of the crash.

Both Wallingford drivers were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Safyane needed medical attention for internal injuries and Boughton-Michaud had serious injuries, as well, police said. Both drivers were in stable condition as of 3:10 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio.

Police closed down a section of Cook Hill Road while the Traffic Division investigated the collision.

Wallingford police ask any witnesses of the crash and people who may have seen either car prior to the accident to contact Officer Christian Evans at 203-294-2819.

Police did not release information on the cause of the crash and have not indicated whether they anticipate any charges. More information will be provided if it becomes available.
