Two Homes Hit with Molotov Cocktails

Two homes were hit with Molotov Cocktails early Tuesday Morning.

Around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Yesenia Reyes heard what she describes as a “big boom” inside her Hartford apartment. A Molotov cocktail had been thrown at her Cabot Street. home, struck the window to her son’s bedroom and then exploded.

Molotov Cocktails -- breakable glass bottles containing a flammable substance -- were thrown at two Hartford homes in the middle of the night on Tuesday within minutes of each other.

Reyes’ home was hit first.

“You could hear a big boom and when I looked through the hallway, all you could see was a big bright light of red,” Yesenia Reyes said.

Reyes said that she is so terrified of the situation that she won’t let her son stay in the apartment any longer.

“They could have blown the room on fire … my son was in there sleeping,” Reyes said. “I don’t even go my kids with me. How can I even have them here? What if this happens again? What if it's worse?”

Within minutes of that incident, there were more problems about a block away.  Police said another flaming bottle was thrown into a window on Homestead Avenue.

There was smoke damage and six people were forced out of the building.

“Hartford is crazy right now. It's getting too bad out here,” Reyes said.

Investigators believed the two cases could have been related, but the motivation behind the crimes still wasn’t clear.

“How can you even do something like this with kids around here,” Reyes asked.

She said she won’t feel safe until police make an arrest.
