Two Teens Critically Injured in Fairfield Tubing Accident

Two 13-year-old girls suffered serious injuries in a tubing accident near Jennings Beach in Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.

The girls were in a two-person tube, being pulled by a boat, when something went wrong just minutes into the ride and they hit the side of the 69-foot motor yacht, Tranquillo, and were thrown, face-down into the water, officials said.

The same person owns the yacht and the boat that was pulling the girls, according to police.

The teens were unconscious and people who were on the yacht jumped into the water, pulled the teens out and onto the yacht, then called for help around 4:30 p.m.

Ambulances then transported the teens to Bridgeport Hospital to be treated for critical injuries.

They remain in critical, but stable condition on Monday, morning police said.

The teen's names have not been released. Police said they were from out of state and vacationing in the area.

Police from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection are investigating and Fairfield Police are assisting.
