UConn Chooses Hartford Hospital as Partner

The University of Connecticut announced today that it chose Hartford Hospital as UConn Health Center's principal partner.

According to a UConn statement, the partnership will create University Hospital, located on two campuses in Hartford and Farmington.

University Hospital will be owned by UConn and will be operated by Hartford Healthcare; the Hartford facility will continue to be owned and operated by Hartford Healthcare.

Four hospitals, including a proposal by Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, responded to UConn's solicitation of interest on Aug. 1, 2008.

Hartford Hospital President and CEO Elliot Joseph told Hartford Hospital corporators at their annual meeting yesterday that talks with UConn were going well, and to "stay tuned" for more updates.

The update came today with UConn's announcement that it accepted the proposal by Hartford Hospital and the Hospital of Central Connecticut because their proposal was "the most comprehensive."

The conceptual framework includes a collaboration with several area hospitals, including Saint Francis Hospital and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center that "expands interactions with UConn's medical and dental students, interns and residents."
