Ugh, Say It Ain't Snow

Snow expected across much of Connecticut tonight

Snow started in parts of inland Fairfield County shortly after noon and is currently spreading across the state. Temperatures are above the freezing mark so roads will remain wet, but it's possible that some of the grassy surfaces could pick up an inch of two of accumulation in the hill towns northwest and northeast of Hartford.

Snow is expected to mix with rain in the valleys and along the coast with little accumulation expected, but above 500 feet snow will continue through the evening and overnight with a couple of inches of accumulation possible. Roads should remain mainly wet but some of the higher elevations may have to deal with a few slick spots for Friday morning's commute.

Snow is unusual this time of year, but not unheard of. A snowstorm on October 4, 1987 knocked power out to nearly 100,000 customers when nearly a foot of snow fell in Litchfield County. Another storm on October 10, 1979 dumped a few inches of snow even down to the Connecticut shoreline.
