Unions Plan Ratification Votes

A week of meetings have led to a new deal between the unions and Governor Malloy.  Friday night, SEBAC announced that it has reached a tentative agreement on a "clarified" concessions plan.

The new agreement means all pink slips issued over the past three three weeks will be rescinded.  It also clarifies preservation of the health plan for state employees.

Union leaders said the agreement is a path forward to restoring services like keeping Courthouses and DMV offices open.

According to a union statement, "The united effort of union leaders has produced an agreement that is not just fair for the members they represent. It's also good for the people they serve, and will restore vital public services cut in the governor's alternative budget plan."

"I hope state employees ratify this agreement, but I am assuming nothing.  If they ratify it, the vast majority of layoffs and painful spending cuts can be undone," said Gov. Malloy.

"As with the ratification process on the previous agreement, individual unions and bargaining units will be determining their own ratification or affirmation process and timeline," said a statement issued by SEBAC on Saturday.

Sources tell NBC Connecticut a round of informational meeting will be set up at various union offices in the coming days.  The unions will have to ratify the plan before the mid-August deadline.
