Vacant Home Burns Down

A vacant house burned to the ground and at least two others were damage in an early morning fire on the New Haven-Hamden town line.

The fire was reported around 3:30 a.m. on Friday in the vacant home at 400 Newhall St., firefighters said. The flames spread to two neighboring houses, which suffered fire and smoke damage before authorities were able to extinguish the fire and 14 people are out of their houses on Friday morning.

Firefighters said they responded to a smaller fire at the same home on Thursday.

It straddles the Hamden and New Haven lines, so firefighters from both departments responded.

The siding and windows of at least one other house on the densely populated street were damaged by heat.

Nobody was injured.
