Volunteers Help All Feel Like a Princess for Prom

Prom is a rite of passage for most teenagers, but it usually comes at price and many families can’t afford that right now. That’s where a group called “Princess and the Prom” comes in. It will help every girl find that perfect prom dress at the perfect price – free.

“This event is to help girls who need a little help getting to prom,” Cheryl Podgorski, the founder, said.

The Princess and the Prom will hold its fourth annual event this weekend. Two hundred and fifty volunteers will help distribute nearly 2,000 dresses.

For the first time, the group is asking that all girls make appointments in an effort to help cut down on the lines that have developed in year’s past. Already, 600 girls have made appointments.

“It’s just so exciting to see their faces. Next thing you know, the moms are smiling and tearing up too,” Janet Almagro, a volunteer, said.

The event will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Windsor. It begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and runs 9 p.m. The giveaway will also happen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

You can register on the group’s Web site www.princessandtheprom.org.

Once your have registered, you’ll get a ticket. Bring that and a high school ID card to the appointment and a personal shopper will help you find the perfect dress with just enough glitz and glam.
