Vote Possible on Bridgeport School Board Changes

A judge could rule in the takeover of the school system.

A judge could set a date on Wednesday for a special election to restore an elected school board to the Bridgeport school district.

Superior Court Judge Salvatore Agati said on Friday he will rule on April 18 on when to hold the election, according to The Connecticut Post.

The Connecticut Supreme Court ruled in February that the state violated the law with its takeover of the school board.

New board members were appointed last summer to help turn around low-achieving districts.

The state's highest court said the takeover was invalid because the state did not first provide members of the elected board with training as required.
