Wacky Weather Brings Major Winds, Rain

The good news is that you can leave your winter jacket at home today. It’s at least 60 degrees out there. The bad news was for all those people who left early this morning in the soaking rain.

It’s was wet out there, and very windy.

The shoreline was the hit hardest, with winds blowing at least 25 miles per hour, although our crews said it felt like wind was moving around 50 mph, and it created some rather large waves.

Thousands of people are still without power Thursday morning and two-hour school delays were reported in Westbrook and Old Saybrook.

At Hartford Hospital, some scaffolding came loose outside the Conklin building and a spokesperson said high winds might be to blame. Six patients were moved to another building as a precaution. No one was hurt.

The emergency room ambulance bay for Connecticut Children's Medical Center is also temporarily closed.

In North Haven, police reported minor flooding near Elm Street, mostly because of heavy wind gusts.

The pouring rain caused some problems in Hamden, where there was some flooding on Meadow Brook and Circular avenues.

In Meriden, puddles formed and police set up barricades around the Cook and Hanover avenues area, which tend to flood.

In Middletown, wind swept water across the road so it was difficult to tell whether you were approaching a puddle or just a quickly moving layer of water.
