Services Today for High School Drowning Victim

Marcum Asiamah was participating in a supervised swim class, police said.

Family and friends of a 15-year-old East Hartford boy who drowned at the high school pool will gather to remember him on Friday as he is laid to rest.

Marcum Asiamah, a 15-year-old freshman at the school, died after an incident at the East Hartford High School pool on Jan. 11.

The medical examiner ruled his death asphyxia due to submersion. 

Police said Asiamah was found unconscious in the deep end of the pool while participating in a supervised swim class. He was brought to Connecticut Children's Medical Centerm where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 p.m. that day

Asiamah was born in Manchester.

He is survived by his parents, Doris Amponsah and Kwadwo Asiamah of East Hartford, his sister Michelle and brother Jason, both of England, many uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at noon at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home in East Hartford.

A memorial service is planned for Sunday morning at the Rivers of Life Ministry in Vernon.
