Warm Welcome Planned for Injured Marine

Glastonbury residents prepare to meet their future neighbor.

Manny Jimenez should feel a warm welcome on Wednesday night when he meets his soon-to-be new neighbors at an event in Glastonbury.

Jimenez, a 2007 graduate of New Britain High School, lost his left arm, the hearing in his left ear and partial sight in his left eye in an explosion in Afghanistan in August 2010.

Purple Heart Homes and the town of Glastonbury have teamed up for a kick-off event to build Jimenez a specially adapted home.

On Wednesday night, residents will have a chance to meet Jimenez, thank him for his military service and learn what his plans are for the future.

Purple Heart Homes co-founders, Dale Beatty and John Gallina, will also attend the event at the Glastonbury Community Center.

There is a spring groundbreaking planned for Jimenez's Addison Road property. Residents can hear from groups that have already volunteered for the project and learn how to help. Wednesday's event is being held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Glastonbury Community Center at 300 Welles St.
