Water Restored to Nearly 100 Properties After Main Break in Windsor

Water service was restored to nearly 100 properties in Windsor nearly 12 hours after crews shut down a water main on Kennedy Road and worked through brutal cold to make repairs.

Water burst onto Kennedy Road at about 5 a.m. on Monday and froze due to the extreme cold, making it tricky for crew members.

The 12-inch water main was shut down at 9:15 a.m. Before crews could begin repairs, snow needed to be removed so workers could excavate and shut off the broken main, according to a spokesperson for the Metropolitan District Commission.

A total of 93 properties from 400 Kennedy Road to Mayflower Road were without water until 8:30 p.m. Service won't be restored until sometime between 9 and 10 p.m., according to the MDC.

Officials said adverse weather conditions delayed the repair process, which was expected to be finished by 4:30 p.m.

Windsor police shut down Kennedy Road between Ravine Road and Canterbury Lane and closed side streets such as Glenwood Drive, Pilgrim Drive, Pierson Lane and Canterbury Lane.

It's one of several water main breaks to occur around the state Monday, including three in West Hartford and others in Hartford, Bristol and Thomaston.
