A water main break has shut down Route 1 in Groton.
According to police, the water main break is significant, and Poquonnock Road (Route 1) will be closed for several hours.
There are detours in place. Westbound traffic is being diverted at South Road to Runway Lane to High Rock Road and back to Route 1. Eastbound traffic is being detoured at Buddington Road to the Gold Star Highway to North Road, according to police.
Water was being shut off in the area, but police did not know if water service was disrupted to any homes or businesses.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area, police said.
