Boyfriend, Girlfriend Found Dead in Waterbury Home

A man and woman were found dead in their home on Cooke Street on Thursday afternoon and the medical examiner said the case is a murder-suicide.

According to police 36-year-old Ayanda Mbovane stabbed his 23-year-old girlfriend, Nqobile Gumede, in the neck, them stabbed himself in the neck.

According to police, a woman called 911 around 3 p.m when she had trouble reaching her friend, who never showed up for work, and grew concerned.

Police conducted a well-being check and found the couple dead in the house they rented at 258 Cooke Street.

They were last seen entering the house on Wednesday, authorities said.

The Waterbury police forensics unit went to the scene to investigate and recovered the weapon at the scene.

Neighbors said the couple had only lived in the house for a few weeks and that they had never noticed anything suspicious.

The couple has been tentatively identified, police said, but investigators are confirming their names and notifying their families. Police said the process has been difficult because both people are from Africa.
