West Hartford Mother Allegedly Stabbed by Son Headed to Rehab

A West Hartford mother allegedly stabbed by her son is out of intensive care and is expected to head to a rehabilitation facility, a family friend confirmed Wednesday.

Jane Murphy has been recovering from multiple stab wounds, allegedly at the hands of her 12-year-old son. Her daughter was also stabbed during the attack at the family’s home on Stoner Drive. The girl died of her injuries.

"The family is so grateful for the outpouring of kindness and support they’ve received. Jane has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit and it is expected that she will be moved to a rehabilitation facility shortly where she will begin the long and difficult process of healing. The family asks for continued prayers and privacy,” said Chuck Coursey, a family spokesperson.

The community has rallied behind the family, holding prayer services and creating memorials around town. On Stoner Drive, a memorial and white ribbons on wooden sticks line the entrance to the neighborhood.

The boy has been charged as a juvenile with murder with special circumstances and first-degree assault.
