West Hartford Police Arrest Two Burglary Suspects

Police subdued one suspect with a stun gun.

West Hartford police used a stun gun in the arrest of a pair of teens suspected of breaking into at least four unlocked cars overnight and stealing loose change and GPS devices.

Officers responded to Walkley Road after a homeowner called to report two suspicious people running down their driveway.

They arrested Dennis Garcia, 19, of Hartford immediately, but the other person ran off through a backyard.

A K9 unit traced down a suspect into the back yard on Lilley Road.

The person, whose name has not been released, was hiding in brush and tried to run away, so the officer used a stun gun to subdue him and take him into custody, police said.

He is 17 years old and considered a “youthful offender.”

Police say the two people stole GPS units from unlocked cars at three addresses. These items were returned to the owners after the officers were able to determine where the items belonged.

Both suspects face several charges.

Police said there has been an increase in this type of crime and officers have made five arrests in the last week.

Police said someone entered homes and cars last week and extra patrols are watching the area.
