West Hartford Shots Fired Was Drug Deal Turned Robbery

Police responded to 30 Oakwood Avenue in West Hartford the night before Halloween after received reports of gunshots and determined that the incident was a drug deal that turned into a robbery, police said.

Police arrested James Walker, 38, of New Britain, who they said tried to break into an apartment on Arnoldale Road after firing shots and trying to steal a car.

As officers investigated, they determined that the shooting was connected to a drug deal and robbery at 30-32 Oakwood Avenue, police said.

West Hartford Police then reached out to the state Department of Correction, Parole & Community Services after it was learned that a suspect in this case, Davon Gill, 20, who lives at 32 Oakwood Avenue, was on special parole at the time, police said.

On Tuesday, authorities took Gill into custody for parole violations.

As police took Gill into custody, they found illegal drugs in his possession, police said.

He was charged with possession of less than .5 oz. of marijuana, illegal possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal manufacture, distribution, sale, prescription or dispensing, sale/possession within 1,500 of prohibited place.

Gill was processed on these charges and turned over to Parole Officers who remanded him into custody.

This incident remains under investigation.
