Crews Repair 3 West Hartford Water Main Breaks

Three broken water main breaks in West Hartford alone kept Metropolitan District Commission crews busy for much of the day in brutally cold temperatures.

Breaks were reported Monday on Warrenton Avenue, Flatbush Avenue and Haynes Road. The first two had been repaired by about 1 p.m. but water service wasn't restored to properties on Haynes Road until 7 p.m.

have been repaired, but crews remain at the scene of a water main break at Haynes Road and Nursery Drive.

An 8-inch water main on Flatbush Avenue was shut down for repairs between 3:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to a spokesperson for the MDC. As a result, water service was cut to two properties, including the Connecticut Veterinary Center near the intersection with Oakwood Avenue. 

A second water main break was reported on Warrenton Avenue affected 16 properties between South Highland and Prospect streets. The 6-inch main installed in 1978 was shutdown from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The 12-inch water main on Haynes Road was shut down around 11:45 a.m., affecting water service to 39 homes on Haynes Road between Sherwood and Vanderbere roads, according to the MDC. Service was restored around 7 p.m.
