West Haven Officer in Motorcycle Crash Gets Support From Department

A West Haven officer badly hurt during a motorcycle training exercise last week remains in the ICU.

Officer Michael Doyle, 34, was part of a motorcycle training exercise at the time of the incident on June 23, according to West Haven police. Doyle swerved to avoid a merging vehicle and his motorcycle collided with another officer's motorcycle on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley, New York.

The 8-year West Haven Police veteran was thrown from his motorcycle onto the pavement and suffered severe injuries, West Haven police said.

Authorities said a group of police motorcyclists from different law enforcement agencies were involved in the training exercise at the time.

Since Doyle has been in the hospital, officers have been stationed around the clock, rotating shifts, Sgt. Tammaro said. He said the officers are there to support Doyle and his wife, so they know they are not going this tragic ordeal alone.

Tammaro said Doyle is making progress and they home to know more about his condition next week.
