Westbrook Students Taken to Hospital as a Precaution

Some reported feeling ill after the pilot light went out in a school stove.

Some reported feeling ill after the pilot light went out in the middle school stove.

Some students from Westbrook Middle School went to the hospital on Monday morning as a precaution after feeling ill at school.

A pilot light in the stove in the school kitchen went out over the weekend and 17 students complained about headaches and upset stomachs on Monday morning.

The middle school and high school were evacuated briefly. 

Supt. Patricia Charles said in a notice to parents that some of the students went to the Shoreline Clinic as a precaution.

How many sought treatment has not been released.

Students and staff returned to their classes.
