Westport Police Are Looking for 2 Burglars

Police said the burglars crashed into two police cruisers.

Westport police are looking for two men they said tried to break into a business, led police on a chase and caused damage to two cruisers.

An officer was on patrol just before 12:30 a. m. and saw two men in hooded sweatshirts walking in front of the stores at 877 Post Road East, police said. One had a pry bar in his hand and they had attempted to break into a business there, police said.

When the officer turned into the parking lot, the men ran around the building,  entered a white Dodge minivan with New York plates and fled on 195 south.

The driver refused to stop for Westport police and intentionally struck Westport Police vehicles, police said.

Connecticut State Police, along with police in Darien, Stamford, Greenwich and Portchester, New York provided assistance, but the van crashed in New York.

The two people remain at large.

Westport police continue to investigate.
