Whoops! Real Cop Says Fakes Pulled Him Over

Two men pretending to be police officers pulled over the wrong man -- a real police officer, police said.

An off-duty Hartford police lieutenant was driving on Franklin Avenue near South Street just after midnight Tuesday when someone behind him turned on a siren and red and blue strobe lights and ordered him to pull over, using a public address system, police said.

Another vehicle pulled up beside the lieutenant's vehicle.

The lieutenant called dispatchers for help and his fellow officers caught up with the drivers, police said.

Israel Gomez, 20, of Hartford, was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer, improper use of flashing lights and reckless driving.

Esteban Cardona, 20, of Hartford, was charged with reckless driving.

Both were released and are scheduled to appear in a Hartford court on Nov. 4, 2008.
