Wolcott Mayor Investigates Cops

Wolcott Mayor Thomas Dunn is conducting an investigation into the town’s police department but the nature of it will not be revealed until next month.

Dunn confirmed he has been investigating the department for two months but said he cannot provide details on what he is looking into.

He said he had been receiving anonymous letter and felt that information, combined with other factors, indicated there was enough to warrant an investigation.

Among claims of improprieties, according to the Waterbury Republican-American, Dunn hired William St. John, an attorney, to get a "feel" for the working environment in the police department.

Sources within the department told the Republican-American that officers have been questioned about the practices of their superiors.

Dunn said he hopes to have a final report issued within the next month and that the investigation will restore confidence in the town.
