Woman, 21, Killed on I-91 in Meriden

State police say are investigating a crash on Interstate 91 in Meriden that killed a pedestrian over the weekend.

Julie Greim, 21, of Guilford, was struck by a minivan in the right northbound lane near Exit 16 late Saturday night after she got out of her car following a minor crash, police said. She was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.

She had a flat tire and had caller her boyfriend, who was on his way to help her, one of Greim’s friends told the New Haven Register.

Greim graduated from Guilford High School in 2007, according to her Facebook page, and worked for Sarah Inc., a community service agency that serves children and adults with disabilities.

Her family told the Register that she was a talented artist who loved her family and “found her niche” working with people who are intellectually disabled.

"She cherished spending time at her family cottage in Clinton collecting sea glass and taking in the beauty of the ocean," her family told the Register. "She enjoyed photography and had a great eye for her subjects, bringing forth the splendor in all she viewed."

Police say the minivan driver, David Zhang, 22, of Hamden, and a passenger in his vehicle weren't injured.

No criminal charges have been filed. Authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call state police.
