Spa Owner Charged With Human Trafficking

The owner of a Windsor Locks spa has been arrested, accused of holding another woman captive in a local spa for two weeks.

Chun Lan Tam Wang, 38, told the victim that she would have to perform certain sexual acts on customers of the spa to make money for food, according to police.

Police went to investigate at Century Spa, at 5 National Drive, around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday after the victim fled to a nearby business.

With help from Homeland Security agents, officers determined that the victim, a Chinese woman who spoke very little English, had been lured to the business from New York, was held against her will in the spa for the last two weeks and was not allowed to leave or contact anyone for help, according to police.

Wang has been charged with one count each of human trafficking, promoting prostitution in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the second degree, cruelty to persons, breach of peace in the second degree and threatening in the second degree.

The spa has been open since October, according to state records online. Police said they have not had trouble there before.
