Woman Claims She Witnessed Cold Case Murder: Report

A witness to a 1993 murder in Norwich came forward to help investigators make an arrest in the cold case, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Irene Reynolds, 38, was charged May 14 with the murder of her mother, Bertha.

Kim Stone, a former friend of Irene Reynolds, came forward to tell police she watched Reynolds, who was 21 at the time of the murder, hit her mother over the head several times with a lamp, the Norwich Bulletin reported.

Stone told investigators "she saw Bertha's bloody face and ' she wasn't getting up or making noises anymore,'" according to the warrant.

She told police she lied to officers during interviews just after Bertha Reynolds' murder because she feared she would get in trouble for not trying to stop Irene Reynolds, the Bulletin reported.

Reynolds was being held on $2 million bond, and is scheduled to return to court June 7.
